My work focuses on understanding and manipulating novel electronic phenomena. I employ a variety of scanning probe technique to measure electronic, structural and magnetic properties from the atomic scale to the full device scale. A central theme is to use spatial structure as a tool both to explore the complex phase diagrams of materials in which electrons interact strongly and to manipulate functional properties of electronic devices. My interests include both equilibrium phases as well as phenomena that arise out of equilibrium when charge carriers are flowing.
